Pickleball Courts Shut Down + 6-Year-Old Takes on Adult

Kids invade pickleball, reduce risk of injury, and pickleball's noise problem.

Welcome back to The Pickleball Clinic Newsletter!

Courts shut down, 6-year-old competes against adults, and keys to hit an ATP (plus more)…

Let’s jump in 👇

❌ Courts Closed! ❌

In Walker, Michigan neither tennis nor pickleball players will get to use the local courts due to neighborhood noise complaints.

The challenge of noise and the conflict between tennis and pickleball players is emerging nationwide. Is it fair?

There are over 270,000 tennis courts for 24 million tennis players in the US.

For the 15 million active pickleball players in the US, there are only 10,320 courts (and a large portion are on tennis courts).

The disparity here is overwhelming.

Pickleball players > Pickleball courts

  • Pickleball needs 25,000 courts to keep up with demand.

  • Cost of 25k courts is upwards of 900 million dollars. 💰💰💰

Sorry tennis players, repurposing underutilized tennis courts seems like the most straightforward, budget friendly, remedy.

Do you think there will ever be peace between tennis and pickleball players in America?

Set aside time for a proper warmup before you play!

The best warmup exercises to do before playing are dynamic stretches (i.e. stretches that you do while moving).

Some great exercises to do before you play:

  • lunges

  • quad pulls

  • frankensteins

  • side shuffle

A few minutes of stretching will make your muscles loose, boost your performance, and prevent injury.

Take the time and implement this into your playing routine.

The easiest winner you aren’t hitting yet. The ATP 💥

Key takeaways:

  • Be patient

  • Don’t hit the ball at its peak

6 Year-Old Boy Leads Against Adult Man at Gamma Classic

In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 6-year-old JR DeHeart competed against a 35-year-old man in singles at the Gamma Classic.

Wow, JR…can we have your autograph?!? 🤯

The clip above erases the stereotype that pickleball is an old person sport.

The number of young pickleball players entering the sport is increasing rapidly, especially among those under 24 years old. This trend continues due to the rise of youth recreation programs and more young adults playing throughout the country.

An Interview with Megan and Ryler DeHeart

Aaron had a great talk with the husband and wife pro pickleball duo, the DeHearts!

A variety of topics were discussed including👇

  • Why pickleball is perfect for kids

  • Insight into their RV life on the road

  • How they manage playing mixed together

A pickleball court is the same size as a doubles court in badminton. It measures 20×44 feet which is much smaller than a tennis court which measures 36×78 feet.

Less ground to cover, but faster pace game. 💨

Until next time!
