Pickleball makes its way to China, and a chance to be on a new pickleball reality TV show — we explore that and more today.

Big news this week! The Association of Pickleball Players (APP), one of pickleball’s leading pro tours, made an exciting announcement on Thursday (which we actually helped break the news about).

They announced a joint deal with ESPN to bring APP Tour broadcast coverage to Mainland China for the first time ever.

The APP/ESPN is now broadcasting pickleball in:

US
China
Sweden
England

There’s a big push taking place to expand pickleball globally.

The World Pickleball Federation (WPF) plans to hold a World Pickleball Games Summit in 2024.

Their organization has 34 member countries with 6 global regional federations formed.

This week we’re talking international pickleball, and for me, where I’m most excited for it to grow.

Of course, growth anywhere internationally is a great thing — but especially the rise of pickleball in Asia as I think it has some exciting things going for it.

Once it catches on, Asia will definitely enjoy (and embrace) pickleball fully. What that will look like could be very cool.

Additionally, parts of Asia have a strong background in table tennis and badminton, so I am keen to see how well they take to pickleball and how advantageous these background sports are in larger numbers of players.

And somewhat selfishly, I would like to play some tournaments in Asia ;)

The best players are usually those that have simple yet consistent dinks.

In my coaching experience, I’ve noticed that around the 3.5 level, it’s common for players to try to do “too much” with their dinks, adding spin, power, and taking unnecessary risks.

Good placement with a short backswing/follow-through are the most important aspects of good dinks.

Keep your dinks simple!

Pickleball Meets Reality TV

We know you enjoy pickleball. But do you like watching reality TV?

Well…

Now you can get a mix of both thanks to a new reality competition show launching later this year, "Pickleball Paddle Battle”.

The show is currently hunting for 16 elite players (8 male & 8 female), carefully selected based on skills and unwavering passion for the game.

Contestants will face a series of challenging and exhilarating pickleball matches, pushing their physical and mental limits to emerge victorious.

"Pickleball Paddle Battle" is slated to be released in the Fall of 2023 (and the two winning contestants will earn a year-long sponsorship from Pickleball Kingdom).

A Pickleball Celebration For The Ages

The JOOLA Pickleball Championships is an amateur team format tournament that will take place August 31-September 3rd in Orlando, Florida.

Additional Details:

Teams will be divided into divisions based on the average DUPR rating of the team’s top 3 players.

Teams compete in 7 team rounds with 3 doubles matches played in each round. All three matches will be played out regardless of the outcome as every game and every match counts.
